Documents Required for PCBA

By hqt Apr 14, 2026

PCB assembly requires specific documentation to initiate your PCBA production. You may submit the necessary files in the correct format via one of two methods: through our online PCB quotation page; or by sending an email to  info@ysx-tech.com. When emailing, please include your order number in the subject line and specify "Files corresponding to Order Number [Your Order Number]."

Gerber Files (PCB Artwork)

Gerber files are the blueprint for your board. Even for "assembly-only" projects, these files are essential for verifying component placement and fabricating the solder paste stencil.

  • Essential Layers: Silkscreen, Copper (Track), and Solder Paste layers.
  • Format: RS-274X is highly recommended.
  • Submission: Consolidate all layers into a single compressed archive.
  • File Extension: .zip or .rar
  • Maximum Size: 40MB

BOM (Bill of Materials)

The BOM is the master list of all components required for assembly. It tells us exactly what parts to buy (or use) and where they belong on the board.

  • Format: We only accept .xls or .xlsx formats.
  • Maximum Size: 5MB
  • Required Information:
    • For Turn-key Orders: Please include Line #, Quantity, Reference Designator, Manufacturer’s Part Number (MPN), Manufacturer Name, Package, and Type (SMT/Thru-hole).
    • For Consigned Orders: Include Line #, Quantity, Reference Designator, Description, and Package.

Centroid File (Pick-and-Place Data)

The Centroid file (also known as XY Data or Pick-and-Place file) is used to program the automated assembly machines. It specifies the exact position and orientation of every surface-mount device (SMD).

  • Data Included: Reference designator, X and Y coordinates, Rotation (in degrees), and the Side of the board (Top/Bottom).
  • File Extension: .zip or .rar
  • Maximum Size: 50MB

Supplemental Documents (Recommended)

To avoid ambiguity and ensure your boards are built exactly to your vision, we strongly recommend including:

  • Assembly Drawings: Visual guides showing the orientation of polarized components.
  • Special Instructions: Details on manual soldering, glue application, or heatsink installation.
  • Reference Images: Photos of a previous prototype or 3D renderings of the finished product.
